Terms of Use
Last updated: 20 September 2026
Before publishing: a draft to work from, not legal advice. Replace every [SQUARE BRACKET] placeholder and have a lawyer review it — particularly the liability, indemnity and dispute sections, which are the ones that matter if something goes wrong.
These terms are an agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS] ("Socco", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you accept them. If you don't agree, please don't use Socco.
1. Who can use Socco
You must be at least 18 years old and able to verify a current employer email address. You must provide accurate information about yourself, use your real name, and keep your login secure. One account per person. You may not use Socco if we have previously removed your account.
2. Using your work email
When you enter a work email address, you confirm that you are authorised to use it for personal account verification and that doing so does not breach your employer's acceptable use policy. If you're unsure, check with your employer before verifying. We do not accept addresses from government, banking, insurance or defence employers, because those organisations typically prohibit this — but you remain responsible for the address you enter.
Socco has no relationship with your employer. We do not contact them, report to them, or display their name to other members.
3. What Socco is — and what it isn't
Socco is a platform where members organise and join their own social plans. We are not the organiser of those plans. Members create them, set the details, choose who to accept, and are responsible for what happens. Unless a plan is explicitly labelled as an official Socco event, Socco is not a party to it.
We do not employ, endorse, supervise or vouch for any member. Verifying an employer email address confirms that someone has a working email address at a company — nothing more. It is not a background check, a character reference, or a guarantee of anyone's conduct.
4. Meeting other people: your responsibility
Meeting people you don't know carries risk, and you accept that risk when you use Socco. You are solely responsible for your decisions about who to meet, where to go, and what to do. We strongly encourage you to:
- Meet in public places, especially the first time
- Tell a friend or family member where you're going
- Add trusted contacts so the SOS feature can reach them
- Trust your instincts and leave any situation that feels wrong
- Never send money to another member or share financial details
Our safety features — verification, hidden addresses, host approval, reporting, blocking, SOS — reduce risk. They cannot eliminate it, and we do not promise that they will.
5. The SOS feature — read this
SOS is not an emergency service and nobody at Socco monitors it. When you trigger it, Socco sends your location and plan details to the trusted contacts you chose. That is all it does. It does not contact the police, an ambulance, or anyone at Socco.
In an emergency, call 112 first. Do not press SOS and wait for help to arrive — no help has been summoned.
SOS depends on your phone having battery, network signal and location services enabled. We do not guarantee that an alert will be sent, delivered, received, or acted upon. Socco accepts no liability for an alert that fails to reach anyone or for a contact who does not respond.
6. Rules for specific kinds of plan
Some categories carry particular risks and particular rules. These apply in addition to everything else in these terms.
6.1 Alcohol
Alcohol may be present at any plan — a dinner, a lunch, a trip, a night out. It is not confined to any category, and Socco treats it the same way everywhere.
Socco does not serve, supply, sell, purchase, arrange or provide alcohol, and does not own, operate, licence or control any venue. Where alcohol is consumed at a plan, it is supplied by a licensed venue or by the individuals present, and responsibility for that supply rests with them.
By joining any plan where alcohol may be present, you confirm that:
- You meet the legal drinking age of the state you are in. This is higher than 18 across much of India — currently 25 in Delhi and Haryana, and 21 in Uttar Pradesh. Holding a Socco account does not entitle you to drink anywhere
- You will comply with all applicable excise and public-order laws
- You will not drink and drive, and you will arrange your own way home
- You drink at your own risk, and take responsibility for your own consumption and conduct
Socco does not verify anyone's age against local drinking law, does not monitor what is consumed at any plan, and accepts no liability for anything arising from alcohol — including illegal service by a venue, over-consumption, injury, or the conduct of any member who has been drinking.
Members who arrive intoxicated, pressure others to drink, or drive after drinking may be removed from Socco. That is a community standard, not an undertaking by us to police drinking.
6.2 Carpool
Carpool on Socco is cost-sharing between private individuals and nothing more. It is not a taxi, a fare, or a commercial transport service, and Socco is not a transport provider, aggregator or operator.
- Any money exchanged must be a genuine share of fuel and toll costs only. Charging a fare, or profiting from a ride, is prohibited and may be illegal
- Drivers confirm they hold a valid driving licence, valid insurance and a valid pollution certificate, and that their vehicle is roadworthy
- Drivers must not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Socco does not verify licences, insurance, vehicles or driving records
- Socco is not liable for any accident, injury, loss or damage arising from a carpool
6.3 Sports, fitness, treks and outdoor plans
These carry a risk of physical injury, and by joining one you accept that risk voluntarily.
- You are responsible for your own physical fitness and for any medical condition, and should take medical advice before joining physically demanding plans
- Socco conducts no medical screening or fitness assessment of any member
- Hosts are fellow members, not qualified coaches, trainers, guides or lifeguards, and Socco does not verify any qualification a host claims
- Socco does not inspect routes, venues, courts, equipment or conditions
- You are responsible for your own equipment, water, medication and insurance
6.4 Weekend trips and overnight plans
Socco is not a travel agent, tour operator or accommodation provider. We do not make bookings, hold money, issue tickets or arrange itineraries.
- You arrange and pay for your own travel, accommodation and activities
- Any group booking is a private arrangement between members, at their own risk
- Socco is not responsible for cancellations, refunds, transport failures, unsuitable accommodation, or anything that happens during a trip
- You are responsible for your own travel insurance, documents and medication
- We strongly recommend telling family where you are going, with whom, and for how long
6.5 Meals and food
Socco does not inspect venues, kitchens or food, and cannot confirm the accuracy of any allergen information. If you have an allergy or dietary requirement, tell the host and check directly with the venue. Socco accepts no liability for illness, allergic reaction or dietary harm.
6.6 No minors at plans
Nobody under 18 may attend any plan, including a member's own child or family member, regardless of supervision. Bringing a minor to a plan will result in permanent removal.
7. Photographs, recording and privacy between members
- Ask before photographing or filming another member, and again before posting it
- If someone asks you to remove an image of them, remove it. If it's on Socco and they report it, we will remove it
- Do not record, screenshot or share group chat content outside Socco
- Do not post another member's image on any other platform without their consent
- Do not share another member's name, contact details, workplace, address or messages with anyone
Sharing an intimate image of someone without their consent — including a morphed or AI-generated one — results in immediate permanent removal and referral to the police. Report such content to safety@socco.in; we remove it within 24 hours as required by India's IT Rules 2021.
8. Community rules
Our Community Guidelines form part of these terms and set out in plain language what is and is not acceptable on Socco. In summary, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate or discriminate against anyone
- Post or send content that is sexually explicit, hateful, violent or unlawful
- Create plans you do not intend to hold, or repeatedly fail to attend plans you joined
- Misrepresent who you are, your age, your employer or your intentions
- Use Socco to advertise, recruit, sell, solicit or run a business without our written permission
- Share another member's private information — addresses, contact details, photos or messages — outside the app
- Bring anyone to a plan who has not been approved through Socco
- Attempt to access accounts, data or systems you are not entitled to, scrape the service, or interfere with its operation
- Use Socco while under a legal restriction that makes it inappropriate for you to meet members of the public
We may remove content, restrict features, suspend or permanently close any account that breaks these rules — in serious cases, immediately and without notice.
9. Hosting a plan
If you host, you are responsible for the plan you create: the accuracy of the details, the safety and suitability of the venue, any bookings or costs you commit to, and your conduct towards guests. If you cancel, do it as early as possible and tell your guests. Repeatedly cancelling, failing to appear, or hosting plans that do not happen may cost you the ability to host.
10. Guests and partners
Where Socco allows you to bring a partner or guest, you vouch for that person. You are responsible for their conduct at the plan, and their behaviour may affect your standing on Socco. Guests must complete the verification we ask for and accept these terms.
11. Costs between members
Any money that changes hands for a plan — restaurant bills, court bookings, tickets, fuel — is a matter between members. The bill-splitting tool is a convenience for calculating and settling shares. Socco is not a party to those payments and is not responsible for amounts owed, refunds or disputes between members.
12. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. By posting, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display and distribute that content within Socco for the purpose of operating the service. You confirm you have the right to post it, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights. If you appear in a photo someone else uploaded, you can ask for it to be removed.
13. Reporting and moderation
If someone behaves badly, report them in the app. We review reports and may act on them, including removing content and closing accounts. We may also share information with law enforcement where required or where we believe it necessary to prevent serious harm. We aim to be fair, but we cannot promise a particular outcome or timeline for any individual report.
14. Content removal, records and your right to appeal
Socco is an intermediary under India's Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. That means:
- Grievances. Our Grievance Officer acknowledges every complaint within 24 hours and aims to resolve it within 15 days. Contact details are in section 23 and on our Support page.
- Non-consensual intimate imagery. We remove content that shows a person in nudity, a sexual act, or in impersonated or morphed form within 24 hours of a complaint. Anyone may report it, not only the person pictured.
- Lawful orders. We act on orders from a court or an authorised government agency within 36 hours.
- Record retention. We retain member registration information for at least 180 days after an account is closed, and preserve information relevant to an investigation for as long as the law requires.
- Notice before removal. If we remove something you posted, we will tell you what was removed and why, and give you a reasonable chance to dispute it.
- Appeal. If you are unhappy with how your complaint was handled, you may appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee constituted under Rule 3A of the IT Rules, 2021, within 30 days of our decision.
We may suspend an account while investigating a serious report. You can dispute any action by writing to hello@socco.in.
15. Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue features at any time, and we may limit availability by area. We try to keep Socco running reliably but do not promise uninterrupted service.
16. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Socco is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, that any member is who they claim to be, or that any plan will take place as described.
17. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Socco and its directors, employees and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or personal injury arising from: your use of the service; the conduct of any member or guest, online or in person; anything that happens at or in connection with a plan; content posted by members; or your reliance on any verification, rating or reliability record shown in the app.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of [the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim] or [INR 1,000].
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
18. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Socco harmless from any claim, demand, loss or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the service, your conduct at any plan, content you post, your breach of these terms, or the conduct of a guest you brought.
19. Ending your account
You may delete your account at any time — see Delete your data. We may suspend or close your account if you breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect other members. Sections that should survive termination — including liability, indemnity and dispute resolution — continue to apply.
20. General terms
20.1 No agency or partnership
Nothing in these terms creates an employment, agency, partnership or joint venture relationship between you and Socco. Members are not our employees, agents or representatives.
20.2 No insurance
Socco provides no insurance of any kind to members, hosts or guests. We do not insure you against injury, illness, loss, theft or damage arising from any plan. You are responsible for your own insurance cover.
20.3 Force majeure
Neither party is liable for failure to perform caused by events beyond reasonable control, including natural disasters, epidemics, government action, civil unrest, strikes, or failures of internet or telecommunications infrastructure.
20.4 Third-party services and links
Socco relies on third-party services and may link to third-party sites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.
20.5 Severability
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in full force and the unenforceable provision is modified to the minimum extent necessary.
20.6 Entire agreement
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines, form the entire agreement between you and Socco and supersede any previous understanding.
20.7 No waiver
If we do not enforce a provision on one occasion, that does not waive our right to enforce it later.
20.8 Assignment
You may not transfer your account or your rights under these terms. We may assign these terms to a successor entity in connection with a merger, acquisition or restructuring.
20.9 Notices
We may give you notice through the app, or by email to the address on your account. You may give us notice at hello@socco.in.
20.10 Survival
Sections covering content licences, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity and governing law survive termination of your account.
21. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at [CITY], India will have exclusive jurisdiction, except that we may seek injunctive relief anywhere. [If you prefer arbitration, insert your arbitration clause here after taking legal advice.]
22. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If changes are material, we'll notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use Socco after that means you accept the updated terms.
23. Contact and Grievance Officer
