Safety Centre

In an emergency, call 112 before you do anything else. Socco's SOS button is not an emergency service and nobody at Socco is monitoring it. It alerts the contacts you chose — it does not call the police.

What Socco does, and what it can't do
We're specific about this because a safety feature you misunderstand is worse than one you don't have.
What we do
- Verify every member through a working company email address, so people have real jobs and real names
- Hide exact addresses until a host has accepted you
- Let hosts approve everyone — nobody joins by just tapping a button
- Support women-only plans, and show the gender mix before you join
- Track attendance, so repeat no-shows lose access
- Act on reports, confidentially, usually within a few hours
- Ban by phone number, so a removed person can't return with a new email
What we can't do
- We do not run background checks or criminal record checks
- We do not verify anyone's character, intentions or history
- We do not attend plans, supervise them, or inspect venues
- We do not monitor group chats in real time
- We do not monitor SOS alerts — they go to your contacts, not to us
- We are not an emergency service, a transport provider, a travel agent or an event organiser
A verified work email tells you someone has a job. It tells you nothing about whether they're a good person. Please read it that way.
Before you meet someone new
- Meet in public the first time. A café, a restaurant, a court, a park — never someone's home
- Tell someone where you're going and roughly when you'll be back
- Add trusted contacts in the app so SOS has somewhere to send an alert
- Arrange your own transport, so you can leave whenever you want
- Keep your phone charged. SOS and location need battery and signal
- Read the group chat first. Hosts who answer questions clearly are usually the ones worth meeting
While you're there
- Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, leave. You don't owe anyone an explanation, and no host is entitled to one
- Watch your drink. Don't leave it unattended, don't accept one you didn't see poured
- Don't overshare early — your home address, your employer, your daily routine can all wait
- Never lend or send money, however convincing the reason
- Don't drive after drinking. Take a cab; deal with the car tomorrow
Category-specific safety
Carpool
Carpool on Socco is cost-sharing between colleagues, not a taxi service. Check the driver holds a valid licence and insurance, share the trip details with someone, and sit where you're comfortable. If the driver has been drinking, don't get in — arrange your own ride and report it.
Sports, treks and outdoors
Hosts are fellow members, not qualified coaches, guides or instructors unless they say otherwise — and we don't verify qualifications. You're responsible for your own fitness and any medical conditions. Tell the host about anything relevant before you go. On treks, carry water, tell someone your route, and don't go if the group is under-equipped.
Weekend trips
Multi-day trips carry the most risk on Socco. You book and pay for your own travel and accommodation — Socco handles no bookings and holds no money. Keep your own copy of the plan, share it with family, and don't hand your ID or documents to another member.
Anywhere alcohol is involved
This applies to any plan, not just a night out — people drink at dinners, lunches and trips too.
Socco doesn't serve, supply or arrange alcohol, and doesn't run any venue. Whether you can legally drink is your responsibility: the legal age is 25 in Delhi and Haryana and 21 in Uttar Pradesh, not 18. Know how you're getting home before you go out, never leave a drink unattended, and don't get into a car with a driver who has been drinking — arrange your own ride and report it.
How reporting works
Every profile, plan and chat has a Report option.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. You report | Choose a reason and add anything you want us to know |
| 2. Immediate effect | The reported person is blocked from contacting you straight away |
| 3. We review | Usually within a few hours for safety reports |
| 4. We act | Warning, restriction, suspension, or permanent ban depending on what happened |
| 5. We tell you | We confirm we've acted. We won't share private details about the other person |
Your report is confidential. We never tell the person who reported them. You can also report anonymously to safety@socco.in.
Hosts aren't punished for a guest's behaviour. If a guest misbehaves we act on that guest, and on whoever vouched for them.
If something serious has happened
- Get safe first. Call 112 if you're in danger
- Get medical help if you need it, before anything else
- Report to the police. We can't do this for you, but we'll cooperate fully with any investigation
- Tell us at safety@socco.in — we'll suspend the account immediately while we look into it
- Keep what you have. Screenshots, messages, names, times. Don't delete the chat
We preserve account records for at least 180 days as required under India's IT Rules 2021, so evidence stays available to an investigation even if an account is closed.
Non-consensual images
If someone has shared an intimate image of you without consent — including a morphed or AI-generated one — write to safety@socco.in with the subject "Urgent: non-consensual image". We remove these within 24 hours, as the IT Rules require. You don't need to be the person pictured to report it. You can also report to the National Cyber Crime Portal at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930.
If you're struggling
Socco exists because being new in a city is lonely, and loneliness is hard. If things feel heavier than that, please talk to someone — Tele-MANAS on 14416 is free, confidential and available in many Indian languages, 24 hours a day.
Before publishing: verify every helpline number above is current, and confirm the state drinking-age figures against current excise rules. Have a lawyer review this page alongside the Terms — particularly the SOS disclaimer.
